Our kid’s dentist here at Potomac Crown Dentistry knows the importance of teaching our patients very early on about dental hygiene. That is why our kid-friendly dentists will not only take care of your children’s oral health but also help educate them so they can grow up and develop a healthy and bright smile!
Although milk teeth are temporary, it is very important to start taking care of them as soon as the first teeth start erupting. Having your child’s dentist check on your child’s dental development is crucial – this way, records can be kept of the progress and help avoid and prevent future dental issues. Most people don’t know how important it is to start taking care of your babies’ gums even when they are young. When their teeth start erupting, you want to make sure they are healthy and cleaned so that they can develop the proper dental habits and routines to maintain good oral hygiene.
Just as important as it is for adults to go at least twice a year to get a complete checkup and a cleaning, it is even more important for children. A full checkup will allow the kid’s dentist to keep track of the development of your children’s milk teeth and prevent any future issues such as cavities, tooth decay, and gum diseases. During the checkup and cleanings, your child will be treated with sealants and fluoride to help strengthen their teeth. Prevention is critical at an early age, as it can pave the way to healthier and better oral health.
During preventative treatment, the dentists will apply a clear pasty liquid to the surface of all teeth to act as a protective seal. What this does is act as a barrier to prevent cavities and also plaque and other harmful agents from sticking to teeth and causing decay and cavities. Fluoride also helps strengthen the tooth and also acts as a barrier to prevent plaque and tartar buildup.
We also offer laughing gas sedation for kids who are afraid of the dentist or of feeling discomfort during their treatment.
