Do you have damaged or stained teeth? Considering dental veneers can be a good option for you. Veneers are very thin shells made out of porcelain or composite resin that cover the surface of your tooth to give it a better appearance. The wafer-thin shells are custom made to fit your teeth, so it blends nicely with your natural teeth; the color and shape will be made to mask issues such as discoloring and staining and chipped or cracked teeth.

Dental Veneers can be used in one or more teeth, and what it will do to improve the appearance of your tooth is by matching the color and shape to your other natural teeth so they can blend. The procedure is fairly simple and is not a highly invasive procedure, although it will require local anesthesia. It requires at least two visits to your dentist, but if taken care of, your dental veneers will last you over a decade.

Getting Dental Veneers

On your first visit, your dentist here at Potomac Dentistry will evaluate and examine your overall dental health. Once you and your dentist decide which teeth you want dental veneers on, an impression of your teeth will be made with a mold. The mold will then be sent to the laboratory so each veneer can be custom-made and crafted for each tooth.

On your second visit, your teeth will be prepared for bonding. The dentist will first prepare the tooth by shaving off the enamel and surface of the tooth to make way for the veneer. The reason for this is that the dental veneers, although wafer-thin, require space, so if your tooth’s not shaven off, it will look bulky. A bonding agent is then brushed on your tooth’s surface, which will allow the veneer to bond to your tooth completely. With the use of a special light, the dentist will finally cure the veneer so it is completely cemented onto your teeth and finish it off by polishing and making sure it fits nicely.

Dental veneers can last a long time, and by practicing good oral hygiene, you will never have problems with them. They are made out of composite resin or porcelain; both materials are long-lasting and will give you amazing results in a matter of two visits to the dentist.
